At Blackhawk Plastic Surgery & MedSpa, our Pico Genesis laser treatment is defined by surgical-level precision and a "patient-first" philosophy.
While many providers offer laser services, Stephen J. Ronan, MD, FACS, brings over two decades of aesthetic expertise to the East Bay, ensuring that this advanced picosecond technology is customized to your specific skin architecture. We choose Pico Genesis because it aligns with our commitment to natural-looking results, providing our patients with a safe, effective way to reset their skin’s clock.

Pico Genesis is a non-invasive laser procedure designed to address two of the most common aesthetic concerns: unwanted pigmentation and overall skin dullness.
Unlike traditional lasers that rely on intense heat (which can sometimes damage surrounding tissue), Pico Genesis utilizes ultra-short, picosecond pulses.
These bursts of energy create a "photomechanical" effect that shatters pigment into tiny particles without overheating the skin. This makes it a safer, more comfortable option for a wider range of skin types across the East Bay, offering patients a path to a balanced, youthful complexion.

Pico Genesis is exceptionally effective at treating a variety of pigment-related concerns, including:
While most commonly used to rejuvenate the face, Pico Genesis is safe and effective for any area showing signs of sun damage, including the neck, chest (décolletage), and the backs of the hands.

If you are looking to clear away years of sun exposure or stubborn melasma, you are likely an ideal candidate. This treatment is perfect for those who want real results but cannot afford the "social downtime" of aggressive resurfacing. During your consult, we will ensure your skin is healthy and that Pico Genesis aligns with your specific aesthetic goals.

One of the greatest luxuries of Pico Genesis is the lack of a formal recovery period. You may experience slight redness or a "sunburned" feeling for a few hours, but this quickly subsides. Over the following 3–7 days, treated pigment may temporarily darken and "pepper" (flake off naturally)—a sign the treatment is working. We recommend keeping the skin hydrated with a gentle moisturizer and, most importantly, wearing a high-quality SPF 30+ to protect your new skin from the Northern California sun.

You will likely notice a brighter, more uniform skin tone within just one to two weeks as the shattered pigment is naturally processed by your body. While a single session can produce a beautiful "glow," a series of 2–3 treatments is typically recommended to fully erase deeper pigmentation. These results are long-lasting; however, because your skin continues to age, many of our patients choose a maintenance session once or twice a year to keep their complexion at its peak.
