If you want a refreshed appearance for springtime, we offer multiple cosmetic procedures that can help you achieve a more youthful look. Below are a few common cosmetic procedures that will leave you looking more radiant in time for the warmer weather.
Blepharoplasty Surgery
Blepharoplasty, also known as an eyelid lift, is a procedure that corrects droopy eyelids. A blepharoplasty can be performed on both the upper and lower eyelids to eliminate excess skin and fat from the area. An eyelid-lift procedure will make you appear more alert and will rejuvenate the delicate eye area, giving you a more youthful appearance.
You may be a good candidate for a blepharoplasty if you have droopy eyelids that are impairing your vision or making you look tired. Eyelid puffiness and bags under the eyes are also good reasons to get this procedure.
Before the surgery, you will be administered either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia; talk to Dr. Ronan about the right recommendation for you. Dr. Ronan will then make incisions in the appropriate areas depending on whether you’re getting surgery on your upper, lower, or both eyelids.
A blepharoplasty generally takes about two hours to complete. You may experience some swelling and bruising around your eyes after your surgery. Cold compresses may alleviate the swelling. It is important to sleep with your head elevated higher than your chest for a few days after your procedure.
It is also important to wear sunglasses and sunscreen and to avoid heavy sunlight for several weeks after your surgery. You will most likely be able to return to your normal daily activities, including work, about ten days after your procedure.
The Face/Neck Lift
As we age, the skin on our face and neck loses its elasticity. Loss of fat and muscle tone also occur naturally with the aging process. A facelift combined with a neck lift can help reverse the inevitable effects of aging and give you a more youthful appearance, all while delivering long-lasting results for up to ten years after the procedure.
During a traditional facelift, Dr. Ronan will make an incision at the ear and up around the hairline to the other ear. Dr. Ronan will then remove or redistribute fat on the face, trim excess skin tissue, tighten the tissues, and then close the incision with stitches.
During a neck lift, Dr. Ronan will make an incision under the chin. If liposuction is part of your procedure, Dr. Ronan will remove excess fat from your neck using that method first. Then, he will trim and remove excess skin and secure the remaining skin in place with stitches.
These procedures can take anywhere from two to six hours to complete depending on the complexity of the surgeries. Recovery and healing time will depend on the procedures you undergo as well. Talk to Dr. Ronan about any questions or concerns you may have regarding the length of these procedures and the amount of time it takes to recover.
The Rhinoplasty Procedure
A rhinoplasty, which is also commonly referred to as a “nose job,” is a routine cosmetic procedure that corrects the shape of the nose so that it is proportionate to the rest of the face. There are two types of techniques that can be performed during a rhinoplasty: the closed technique and the open technique.
When a closed-technique rhinoplasty is performed, Dr. Ronan will make small incisions inside the nostrils. There are no external incisions and no visible post-surgical marks with this technique.
During an open-technique rhinoplasty, Dr. Ronan will make an incision on the skin between the nostrils on the outside of the nose. This technique allows Dr. Ronan to better access the internal tissues of the nose; however, there may be post-surgical marks on the outside of the nose. Talk to Dr. Ronan about the right technique for your procedure.
Generally, a rhinoplasty takes about two hours to complete; however, depending on the complexity of the procedure, it may take longer. After your surgery, Dr. Ronan may place internal dressings and an external splint on your nose. You may experience some bruising and swelling after surgery.
You should plan to take at least a week off work and/or your normal activities while you recover from a rhinoplasty.
Before These Procedures
Before these procedures, you should get a consultation with Dr. Ronan and tell him about your medical history and any medications you are taking. You should also avoid blood-thinning medications like aspirin or ibuprofen before any of these procedures, as they increase the risk of bleeding during and after surgery.
Each procedure is unique and requires different methods and lengths of recovery time. During your consultation with Dr. Ronan, be sure to ask about the recovery process for your particular procedure(s).
