Liposuction prep and recovery

Table of Contents

Tumescent liposuction is a tried-and-true way of removing all kinds of fat deposits around the body that are difficult to target through dieting and exercising. It is one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed.

Tumescent liposuction can safely remove fatty deposits from all parts of the body, including the:

  • Face
  • Chin
  • Neck
  • Breasts
  • Hips
  • Stomach
  • Back
  • Thighs

Recovery Process

There are a number of things that you should keep in mind when it comes to recovery after a tumescent liposuction in order to ensure the best recovery within the least amount of time.

Follow all post-operative advice: Your surgeon will provide the best post-operative care for you which will be personalized depending on the extent of the surgery. You may be required to wear compression garments and absorbent pads. You may also need to avoid partaking in certain activities.

Do not exert your body: After the procedure, you may find that your body is sore and tender in the treated areas. However, the pain felt from a tumescent liposuction is still minimal compared to other cosmetic surgeries. To keep your pain to a minimum, you will have to rest as much as possible, take time off work if necessary, and avoid any kind of physical activity which may cause your body stress. However, lying in bed all day is not advised, as you will need to provide continuous blood circulation to the treated area in order to facilitate speedy recovery.

Keep Swelling to a Minimum: Liposuction will always cause some amount of swelling. The swelling does go down in a matter of weeks. To help accelerate the process, you are advised to drink a lot of water, reduce the amount of sodium that you consume, massage the area in a gentle and circular fashion, and try to avoid alcohol as much as possible until the swelling goes down.

Compression garments: One of the best ways to reduce any kind of adverse effects after the surgery is to wear compression garments the way the doctor prescribes. Wearing these garments the correct way will ensure that the tissue is supported when reverting back to normal, the skin does not sag anymore, and that the risk of swelling goes down drastically.

Recovery time after a tumescent liposuction is usually quick, as most people can return to their normal lives in a matter of a few days. However, you may have to wait a few weeks to some months to fully notice the results that the procedure has had on your body. In order to retain your results for as long as possible, it is important that you maintain a healthy and active lifestyle in order to maintain a steady weight.
