Laser Pearl/Fraxis
Post Care Guide
After Your Treatment
- Mild bleeding may occur during the first 24 hours. You may gently apply moist gauze as needed. If you had fat transfer, avoid extreme water temperatures, as it should not be too hot or too cold. If you did not have fat transfer, you may apply covered ice packs (30 minutes on, 30 minutes off) for the first 72 hours.
- Redness is normal and typically increases over the first few days, peaking around day 3, and may last up to 7 days depending on treatment depth.
- Swelling usually improves within 2–4 days. If the skin around your mouth feels tight or swollen, drink from a cup or spoon and avoid straws. Sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated to help minimize swelling.
- You may notice mild crusting or small scabbed areas lasting 4–7 days. Itching during healing is normal. DO NOT scratch, as this can cause scarring or pigmentation complications. Once peeling resolves, the skin may appear pink or rosy, which will gradually fade.
- A non-drowsy antihistamine such as Zyrtec, Allegra, or Claritin may be taken for 3–4 days to help reduce swelling, burning, or itching.
- Avoid strenuous activity that may cause facial sweating or overheating until peeling has completely resolved. This includes exercise, steam rooms, and saunas.
- Do not apply makeup until all peeling has resolved and the skin has fully healed.
- If you have a history of cold sores, please take the antiviral medication prescribed to you as directed to help prevent an outbreak.
- Use only the products provided in your post-procedure kit for the first week (wash, spray, and balm). Apply them in the numbered order, four times daily, until your 1-week follow-up appointment. These products are designed to protect the skin barrier and promote healing. Avoid all other skincare products, sun exposure, and trauma to the treated area. The skin surface typically closes within 5–9 days but will remain delicate and sun-sensitive.
- Generally, one week after surgery, you will receive a post-laser skincare kit and instruction card with new products to begin using once you are cleared by Dr. Ronan. Consistent daily and nightly use will provide optimal long-term improvement.
- Sun protection is extremely important, especially during the first 6–12 months following treatment. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen daily once your skin has healed, reapply as needed throughout the day, and avoid prolonged sun exposure.
