What Is a Chemical Peel?

Table of Contents

what is chemical peelYour skin is constantly regenerating itself by creating new skin cells and sloughing off the dead skin cells. When the top layers of skin are removed, sun spots, fine lines, and other blemishes vanish along with them. Chemical peels assist the natural turnover of your skin cells, giving you fast results. The aesthetician applies special chemicals to your face to remove the top layers and reveal the youthful skin underneath.

There are a few different types of chemical peels and they vary in strength. Glycolic acid peels are a type of light chemical peel; they are ideal for people with mild skincare concerns such as dull skin or mild discoloration. Another type of light chemical peel uses alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA). For a person with severe skincare concerns, an aesthetician might recommend a trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel, which is much stronger and penetrates deeper into the skin layers.
