Take a look below for the answers to your questions about this exciting and effective procedure offered by Blackhawk Plastic Surgery.
What Is Follicular Unit Extraction?
Follicular Unit Extraction, or FUE, is a new technique for restoring the hairline. This procedure uses a small punch to extract tiny hair grafts of only a few hairs each. Hair grafts are placed using a small needle stick and require no sutures during recovery. There is no scarring, no need for prolonged bandaging, and no general anesthesia—a local anesthetic is sufficient during the procedure.
What Can I Expect From Follicular Unit Extraction?
Patients enjoy very little post-procedural discomfort and a fast recovery period so they can enjoy their new look sooner. Upon leaving your plastic surgeon’s office, there is no obvious evidence of a hair transplant. You can expect some redness to last for a few days, and any discomfort can be managed with over the counter mediation. Antibiotics are generally not required following an FUE procedure. Post-operative instructions include washing your hair carefully following the instructions of your plastic surgeon and avoiding sun exposure for a few weeks. You can resume most normal activities, including exercise, immediately, but you will need to avoid activities that rub against the scalp for approximately ten days.
Who Can Get Follicular Unit Extraction?
FUE treatment is appropriate for both men and women. Patients suffering from hair loss due to natural balding or injury to the scalp can benefit from this procedure. In addition, some patients choose FUE to correct a naturally high hairline not associated with hair loss.
