BOTOX® injection is a simple, nonsurgical procedure which can eliminate or improve deep or persistent wrinkles. The most commonly treated features include the glabellar frown lines (between eyebrows), horizontal forehead wrinkles, and the crow’s feet (just outside each eye). It can sometimes be used to treat wrinkles around the mouth and in the neck. Other uses of BOTOX® include temporary relief of migraine headaches in some patients and improvement in overly sweaty palms and armpits.
BOTOX® is a toxin from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum which has been medically processed. When injected in very small amounts into muscle, it paralyzes or partially paralyzes that muscle for about 3-4 months. The toxin causes the paralysis by blocking the nerve impulse to the muscle.
The office procedure only takes a couple of minutes to perform and is very safe. Many patients return to work immediately after their office visit. The result appears over the next 2-6 days and last about 3-4 months. The offending muscle relaxes and the wrinkle fades.
BOTOX® is a very popular procedure and is highly successful. Patient satisfaction rates are quite high. The procedure is repeatable.
